Real Madrid as well as arch-rivals Barcelona have been touted to be likely destinations for the best Manchester United in the ongoing year.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been at the thick of all battles in La Liga since as far as memory can recollect, but the Spanish giants have faltered in making a mark in the Champions League in the last two or three years. Both sides have been knocked out cheaply and there is a sense that they lack enough goal-scoring proving.

While Madrid have been reliant on Karim Benzema, Barca have turned to Lionel Messi, and the overreliance on a single player from each side has backfired on both of them. Manchester United’s former striker Andy Cole spoke about how Bruno Fernandes, who has been absolutely brilliant since signing for the Red Devils could be lured by the giants.

"It’s probably only a matter of time until there are rumours of a Barcelona and Real Madrid being interested in signing him and if Manchester United continue to not perform in the Champions League, no-one knows if his head could be turned in the years ahead."

Fernandes was in fact linked with a move to the Bernabeu multiple times, including earlier this year before he moved to the Old Trafford. But at the point of talking, it is very difficult to see why he would want to depart the club where he has a sky-high status already and is delivering on all guns blazing. Plus, he is committed to winning with United.

Nevertheless, as Cole rightly pointed out, the Red Devils have now gone three successive seasons without a significant piece of silverware and players may want to depart as they slowly advance in their careers. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the pinnacle of a player’s career so there’s obviously a chance he may switch pastures down the line.

For Real Madrid, it is not ideal to pursue a move for Fernandes because they already have some world-class midfielders, including Martin Odegaard who is a terrific player going forward. On the flipside, Barcelona have struggled in the middle of the park and a player like Bruno Fernandes may help them a great deal if he signs.
