Real Madrid: Luka Jovic seems motivated like never before
Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic hasn’t been able to show his world-class capabilities yet, but with renewed vigor and motivation, his best could be on the horizon.
Many Madridistas were wondering if the team has already given up on Luka Jovic after signing him from Eintracht Frankfurt for 60 million euros in 2019. Real Madrid barely played Jovic in his first season, and while he looked good when he did play, nothing about him screamed “future superstar” either.
It’s difficult to displace Karim Benzema as the No. 9, that’s for sure. Jovic got back-to-back starts early in the season for the first time in his Real Madrid career after there were rumors, corroborated by Borja Mayoral, that the team was open to selling him this summer. While Jovic played decently well, he has faded out of the picture since.
Jovic has received just 207 minutes this season, and only Alvaro Odriozola has played less. But the winds could be changing for the Serbian international, based on a recent report from Jose Luis Sanchez on El Chiringuito.
He states that Jovic has changed his attitude, is working on his Spanish, his doing his best to get more into the locker room, and is motivated to change his situation.
Luka Jovic may be Real Madrid’s best young striker option going forward
It seemed like Jovic was on the backburner for Real Madrid, as the interest in Erling Haaland has heightened, given the young Dortmund star’s incredible form in front of goal. But Haaland won’t be available until 2022, as Dortmund probably cannot sell both Jadon Sancho and Haaland in the same summer window.
There’s no guarantee Real are able to sign Kylian Mbappe either. Jovic, on the other hand, is a 60 million euro investment who scored 27 goals in one campaign for Eintracht and is more than capable of adding to that tally as he matures.
This may be the first step in his maturation after many issues to start his Real Madrid career, including breaking COVID-19 lockdown in his home country. Jovic has made missteps and hasn’t excelled enough on the pitch to make up for it, but we all know his talent and understand what a motivated Jovic is capable of.
It is important for fans to back a young striker and to help him gain confidence. But true confidence emerges from within, accelerated by effort. Jovic seems ready to put in the work for Los Merengues.
