Real Madrid are open to selling a few first-team players in the New Year and one of their underperforming players is wanted by two European giants.

Real Madrid are going to make a few signings next summer but would also like to lighten their wage bill, especially after the losses incurred during the coronavirus pandemic. While some players will certainly be transfer listed, including Isco and Marcelo, in 2021, there will be a few others who will be sold in the event of a reasonable offer.

Todo Fichajes has reported that Marco Asensio is among the players which could be sold next year amid interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard, who recovered from a long-term ACL injury has not been anywhere close to his expected self and has been outdone by the likes of Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior as well.

Zinedine Zidane continues to have faith in Asensio and has started him in some of this season’s most important fixtures, including El Clasico, but it is difficult to see his minutes sustain. The 24-year-old is yet to provide an assist or score a single goal this season in all competitions whereas his competitors are playing very well when called.

Plus, with the imminent arrival of Kylian Mbappe, who is likely to play on the right flank, Asensio would become an outcast at the Santiago Bernabeu. While he certainly is a great player, the current squad at the club simply does not provide him with enough time and room to perform and the months leading up to summer may be his final.

Liverpool and PSG would both be great destinations. Considering that neither side has a squad depth as good as that of Real Madrid, Asensio would feature more regularly and hopefully find his feet. Los Blancos are ready to listen to offers worth 40 million euros and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Majorcan.
