Real Madrid defeated Eibar 3-1 on La Liga’s Matchday 14 to keep their winning streak going.
Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Club, and now Eibar have all fallen to Real Madrid in the five games since that 2-0 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk. Los Merengues have rallied behind their legendary manager in December, and they are showing glimpses of the beautiful football that once made them perennial champions of Europe.
Eibar stuck in there and elevated their game after going down 2-0 early, and Real Madrid did falter. But as a whole, this was another strong performance from Real for a well-earned three points. Here are five burning questions from the match.
Is Real Madrid’s finishing still a concern?
To be honest, Real Madrid should be disappointed that they did not put five goals past Eibar, who came into the match with only 10 goals allowed in 13 matches as one of La Liga’s top teams.
But I think that stat clues you in on what’s most important. It’s a whole lot better to rue missed chances after scoring three goals than it is to bemoan a lack of chances created in the first place, which was the issue that Real Madrid had just a mere month ago.
Make no mistake, Real could be more clinical. Even their main man Karim Benzema missed an easy chance that should have been his brace. There is room to improve, but at least Real are creating the chances in the first place.
