Real Madrid’s budding superstars have unsurprisingly scooped up more accolades in 2020.
There will always be ups and downs in the development of young talents, but Real Madrid fans can be satisfied with how the next generation of stars are playing. Whether they are on loan like Takefusa Kubo or first-team mainstays like Fede Valverde, Los Blancos have several players who look like they can be world-class talents for the next decade.
Young wide forwards Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes have excited Madridistas since the start of the 2019-2020 season. Sure, there have been some quiet periods from both of them, but, by and large, you have to say that they are key players for the first team and make the team better when they are a part of the squad.
4-3-3 named its shortlist of 16 players for the “Talent of the Year” award in 2020, and Vinicius and Rodrygo were on the list as representatives for Real. In fact, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City were the only other clubs with multiple young players on this award shortlist.
Rodrygo and Vinicius have long odds at winning this award ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho, and Matthijs de Ligt, but it’s wonderful to see that they are mentioned among the best 20 or so young talents in European football right now. They have earned it, no doubt.
It’s also interesting to note all the players linked to Los Blancos who are on the list. We see Dortmund’s Haaland and Sancho, but Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is also there.
The future is bright in Madrid. There are several other young players who could still make this list one day, such as Castilla midfielder Antonio Blanco and Villarreal’s Takefusa Kubo, who is one great loan spell away – think of Martin Odegaard’s time at Real Sociedad last season – from being known as a true star in La Liga.
But for now, Vinicius and Rodrygo are making waves, and Madridistas will be rooting for their continued improvement.
