Mbappe continues to remain the primary target for Real Madrid but his transfer to the Spanish capital is certainly not as straightforward as it looks.

Real Madrid have been in the transfer news since a couple of months as they continue to pursue a move for Kylian Mbappe. The Paris Saint-Germain man has a contract at the French capital until June 2022 and thus, the next summer presents Los Blancos with the perfect opportunity to land their target for a relatively cheaper sum.

Mbappe however, has been offered a contract extension at the Parc des Princes and is in two minds as to whether he must accept it or not. The player has already won it all in France and moving to the Santiago Bernabeu has been a dream, whereas with PSG, he has a clear sporting project in front of him for the foreseeable future.

Cuatro now reports that the unlikeliest of figures, Lionel Messi, may now have decided the verdict of Mbappe’s future. Messi was expected to leave Barcelona in 2021 and Paris Saint-Germain were among those interested in him. Had PSG landed the Argentinian, they would have surely lost out on Mbappe to meet financial fair play needs.

Lionel Messi now is open to the prospect of staying at the Camp Nou after stating that he has put the summer’s situation behind him. The Argentine frontman mentioned how he now feels motivated and in a much better place at the club. His statements come as a blow to the likes of PSG as well as Manchester City, but Madrid too.

If Messi ends up staying at Barca, Mbappe may continue at Paris because he may well be offered a better salary than any other club. Money has never been a problem for Les Parisians and could lure the Frenchman into staying by offering a lofty pay-check. It remains to be seen what the World Cup winner makes of what is next.
