Which defenders should Real Madrid keep a close eye on heading into 2021?

Real Madrid have a few pressing needs in their squad that must be addressed in the 2021 summer transfer window. Their primary goal should be to sign a true superstar player who is capable of scoring 30 goals in a season, preferably from the wide forward position. Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah spring to mind as possibilities.

Then, Los Blancos must add depth to their midfield, which has been tested this season by injuries. And finally, Real should consider another defender, perhaps as a long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos. Eder Militao is a classy player, but it never hurts to hedge your bets on another signing.

Real Madrid must be careful, though. They do not have much money, so there is a hierarchy of needs. Defender is the lowest on the list of needs mentioned, but it is a position Real must monitor closely in the coming months. They may also want to sign a fullback, specifically a left back in light of Marcelo’s decline.

Let’s take a look at five defenders whom Los Merengues should identify as transfer targets as we head into the new year. Real won’t make any winter transfer signings, but they could add one of these five players in the summer 2021 transfer window.
