Will Real Madrid make a signing in the winter transfer window? Most likely not, but apparently Zinedine Zidane is shooting his shot.

If Real Madrid make any moves in January, then it will be the sale of Isco for the right offer. Isco may want to leave for greener pastures, as James Rodriguez did with his switch to Everton in the summer, but Real won’t accept any lowball offers.

Luka Jovic is another player who could leave this winter due to interest from the likes of Milan and Hertha Berlin, but Los Blancos would be wise to hold onto the young striker. Losing more depth is rarely a good idea mid-season, especially in this season of all seasons.

Zinedine Zidane may have to lose a rotational piece this winter, but perhaps that could lead to him getting a replacement if the finances work out. Real Madrid must save up as much as possible to sign real game-changers in the summer, but could a winter move work?

Eduardo Inda reports on El Chiringuito that Zidane has asked the club to make a winter signing. India did not say who Zidane would like to sign or the position or caliber of player, just that Zidane has requested somebody in January.

Real Madrid could benefit from some midfield depth

Looking at the current squad, it’s a reasonable request. Real Madrid have shown, in the last five games, that they have the potential to win the league title again and to go much further in the Champions League. There is resiliency and quality in this squad.

But the team struggled mightily a month ago when injuries and positive COVID-19 tests stacked up. There is a lack of depth in midfield, and if, say, Jovic or Mariano were to be loaned, Real would then have serious depth issues at striker. And the defensive depth has been tested this season, including when both Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola were injured at right back.

A winter signing is highly unlikely for Real Madrid, but it could make sense if Isco is sold for the right fee, maybe to a desperate Arsenal looking to avoid relegation. In that case, Los Blancos could have the funds to make a smart depth addition to their midfield.
