DM Casemiro

Casemiro found the back of the net with a great header into the ground, leaping high in the six-yard box to meet Marco Asensio’s delightful cross. The experienced Brazilian midfielder has been in good form during the winning streak, bouncing back from a shockingly poor start to the 2020-2021 campaign.

It’s easy to forget how much of an asset Casemiro is to the team when he joins the attack in the penalty box, especially since he’s so good with his head. Case, of course, scored the opener in the 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid, too.

Defensively, Casemiro was the main standout player for Real Madrid with two tackles, two blocked shots, and four interceptions. Like Asensio and Kroos, Casemiro also had a very compelling Man of the Match case.

RB Dani Carvajal

I’d like to give honorable mentions to Lucas Vazquez and Sergio Ramos, but my final pick in the top five is Dani Carvajal. The world-class right back is all too easy to underrated, but he absolutely merits high praise for his shutdown work for Real Madrid in this win.

Carvajal had two tackles, three clearances, and 88 percent of his passes completed. He wasn’t at his finest in an attacking sense, but he fulfilled all his duties admirably and did a great job defensively. Sure, Real Madrid made mistakes, but Carvajal was not at fault for any sketchy defensive moments. And really, he, Sergio Ramos, and Ferland Mendy should all be strongly applauded for holding off Granada’s furious attempts to score in the second half.
