Real Madrid will end 2020 with two trophies and a decent year overall.

Real Madrid’s 2020 began in exquisite fashion as they won the Spanish Super Cup in January, turning the season around. A lot of pundits were of the opinion that Zinedine Zidane would be sacked by December, and this video is one of those examples.

After the pandemic, Real Madrid went on a 10-match winning streak that propelled the team to a much-clamored league title. Although the club didn’t have success in the UEFA Champions League, the year 2020 can be considered a successful one overall.

Although all the players deserve credit for their contributions to the cause and their undying efforts, there were a few players that were at the forefront of the team’s success on the pitch. In this article, we will take a look at the five best players for Real Madrid during the year 2020.

But first, here are some honorable mentions.

Toni Kroos

The German central midfielder has been on a roll this season, and as with almost Real Madrid player, he was back to his best after a horrible 2018-19 season. That form carried into the year 2020, and how. He has been pulling the strings with panache and a pivotal component in the Real Madrid engine.

Ferland Mendy

Many would argue that he should be one of the top five players, and I can understand why. He was possibly the best left-back in the league and his inclusion in the starting XI led Real Madrid to build a defensive wall that the opponents could not break.

His offensive output might not be noteworthy, but no one can deny the fact that he was a defensive supernova. He was hardly dribbled past by and his 1v1 defending is second to none. He has continued to be the first-choice left-back and he has turned up offensively as well.

Dani Carvajal

The world’s most underrated right-back, Dani Carvajal had a fantastic 2020. He returned close to his offensive peak and he has been as solid defensively as ever. His form has been crucial to Real Madrid’s success and his contributions often go unnoticed. No wonder Achraf Hakimi chose to go out to another club instead of returning to his childhood club.
