Real Madrid have confirmed that Rodrygo Goes has been diagnosed with a muscular injury.
Following final tests on the player, Real Madrid have now confirmed via their website that Rodrygo Goes has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury. Yesterday, MARCA’s José Luis Sánchez tweeted that the teenager will be out for three months. Here is the medical report published on the club’s website.
A few days ago, we wrote – based on a report by Defensa Central – that Rodrygo could return in February. However, Rodrygo will miss the first three months of 2021, which implies that he will definitely miss the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Serie A side Atalanta, although there is slight hope of him making it in time for the second leg that will be played on 16th March. If that does happen, it would be a miracle.
Rodrygo was starting to impose himself in the starting lineup in a frontline where he has had to make do with appearances off the bench. This long injury layout will surely take some steam out of the player and we might not see him back in action till the first week of April since he will be requiring at least a week of training with the squad to be available for selection.
If Real Madrid manage to stay in the title race till March end/April and advance through the knockout phases, Rodrygo will return at just the right time – at a time where Zinedine Zidane would need his entire squad ready to contribute and help the club end the season on a high.
Rodrygo is a fantastic player and it is very important for him to return to his best so that Los Blancos do not lack options upfront. This injury means that he will end the season as a Real Madrid player amidst rumours that he could be loaned out for more minutes.
