CF Karim Benzema

I love starting with Karim Benzema, because it’s a nice, positive discussion. The Real Madrid icon had a rough patch in front of goal at one point, as he started the league campaign with just one goal in his first six appearances.

Since then, Benzema has been on a tear. He’s scored seven in his last seven, and he doesn’t look like he’s going to stop any time soon.

It’s entirely realistic to expect Benzema to score more than 20 goals again this season, as he hit 21 in each of the past two league campaigns as Real’s unquestioned top attacker. I actually think Benzema will score MORE goals this season, given that his best form is occurring right now in the winter. In terms of assists, it’s not out of the question for Benz to hit double-digit assists for the first time in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era.

Prediction: 23 goals, 11 assists

ST Luka Jovic

Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic could be headed on loan this January, and Sergio Santos Chozas of AS recently reported that the Serbian international could be on his way out with Zinedine Zidane being OK with a loan.

I’m still a bit skeptical, because loaning out Jovic would leave Real thin at striker for the title race. But Jovic does need minutes, as he’s featured in just 149 minutes this season. Jovic has not started in the league since September, nor has he played at all since November.

There’s a very real chance Jovic does not provide a goal contribution this season for Los Blancos. If he does get a loan, say, to Milan, he could be a real asset for them as an alternative to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Prediction: 2 goals, 1 assist
