Real Madrid: Resetting goal, assist predictions for every forward in 2020-21

Experienced right winger Lucas Vazquez has locked down the position during Real’s six-game winning streak, showing the heart of a champion. You can knock Vazquez for some things, but you cannot knock him for lacking effort or desire. Most of all, you cannot lie about what he has done this season for Real Madrid. He has earned the starting job.

Vazquez scored a late goal against Eibar, but we are talking about a player who has never scored five goals in a season during his career. However, he has assisted more than five times on four occasions, and his crossing ability this season has been as good as ever.

With one goal and one assist so far this season, expect Vazquez to finish strong and improve on those stats in the second-half of the season. I expect him to yield minutes to Marco Asensio and even attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard on that right-hand side, but with Rodrygo Goes injured, Vazquez has become even more important as a two-way winger working with Dani Carvajal.

Finally, we close with the injured Rodrygo, who was having another quietly efficient season before the recent injury against Granada. Hopefully, Rodrygo will be able to play in the final games for Los Blancos, but it’s extremely difficult to predict how much he’ll play or what his role will be.

That said, his four assists in 420 minutes so far in the 2020-2021 La Liga campaign are nothing to sneeze at. If he returns around April, he could be available for the final 10 La Liga Matchdays. That would give Rodrygo the opportunity to play in a handful of games, maybe getting around 200 minutes. In that amount of time, he could very well have two or three more goal contributions.
