JONATHAN WOODGATE- THE ENGLISH MAN THAT LASTED A YEAR AT THE SANTIAGO BERNABEU

Like Michael Owen, Jonathan Woodgate lasted just a season at Real Madrid. The Englishman came up the ranks at Leeds United before completing his move to Newcastle United. It was at the Magpies where Woodgate made a name for himself.

He was rated as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and in Europe as well. Woodgate had caught the attention of Real Madrid after his heroic display against Marseille in the UEFA Europa League.

However, Woodgate picked up a horrifying injury that seemed like to be the nail in the coffin for his career. Shockingly, Real Madrid were the only club that were still interested in the injury-stricken centre-back.

Woodgate signed for Real Madrid in 2004 and the rest is history. The Englishman was sent off in his debut fixture and had even scored a goal. He was then subsequently sidelined for a year with a serious injury and was then sold at the end of the season, making less than 10 appearances for Real Madrid.
