Real Madrid disappointed on Matchday 16 in La Liga, drawing 1-1 with Elche.

Following a week of rest, Real Madrid were riding high and liking their chances of making it seven straight wins on Wednesday night against Elche. The prospect of having both Eden Hazard and Martin Odegaard healthy and on the pitch in the second half was another reason for Madridistas to be optimistic.

The first half left fans optimistic, as Los Blancos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half after a header from Luka Modric, which was initially created by a rocket of a shot from Marco Asensio.

But instead of building on their lead in the second half, Real Madrid floundered. Elche responded by finding the right way to play through Real’s press, leaving Los Blancos ineffective. Then, Elche started hitting Real with some impressive transitions, with Lucas Boye playing a starring role. And Elche found their goal from the penalty spot after a terrible mistake from Dani Carvajal.

Real Madrid must find solutions to get back to their winning ways over the weekend against Celta Vigo, who boast one of La Liga’s best players in Iago Aspas and are making their own run to a Europa League spot after last year’s relegation fight.

Here are five burning questions for Los Blancos before they face Vigo, who defeated them in 2020.
