DM Casemiro

Although he had a little slump in the 2020-2021 season, Casemiro has awakened just as Real Madrid did on their six-game winning streak. There is still no doubt that Case is the best defensive midfielder in La Liga, and most fans would name him as the best defensive midfielder in the entire world. It’s a reputation that Casemiro must live up to each and every week when he dons the Royal White kit.

Without Sergio Ramos, Casemiro will be needed. In his last three La Liga matches, per WhoScored.com, the Brazilian has recorded multiple interceptions, as he is hitting his best form and getting closer to the Player of the Season candidate we saw in 2019-2020.

Casemiro will have to help Raphael Varane and either Eder Militao or Nacho as much as possible defensively against Iago Aspas. He’ll need to destroy counterattacks in their tracks and make good decisions on and off the ball. It’s the former case that worries Madridistas the most, as defenses like to key in on Casemiro and Varane when pressing. That could be a strategy Celta Vigo use to give Iago Aspas easy chances.

Offensively, Casemiro has scored headers against Deportivo Alaves, Granada, and Atletico Madrid, and his goal-scoring has been a bigger threat recently, too. Without Ramos, who was the second-leading goal-scorer in 2019-2020, we could see Case take on a great role in surging into the box to add to his season tally of three goals.
