Real Madrid bounced back from dropping points against Elche at mid-week, as they defeated Celta Vigo 2-0 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Coming into Matchday 17 in La Liga, Celta Vigo were one spot away from a Europa League place and were threatening. But Real Madrid put them in their place on Saturday night at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, scoring an early goal after a close miss from Celta before adding a second to seal the game in the second half.

Let’s take a look at three takeaways from the clean sheet victory.

Marco Asensio is back

Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio made his first goal contribution of the season on Dec. 23 with an assist for Casemiro in a 2-0 win over Granada. It took him just six minutes on Matchday 17 to make it two assists on the season, setting up a Lucas Vazquez header with another inch-perfect cross.

Then, in the second half, Asensio scored his first goal of the 2020-2021 campaign, as Vazquez returned the favor with the assist.

Asensio left the match before the 75th minute for Eden Hazard, who got some more time on the pitch as he returns from an injury. The Andalusian left the match having produced his very best performance of the season thus far. It looks like Asensio is finally back to his best after a rough start to the campaign, and we can expect more strong performances from him going forward.
