Real Madrid have made some pathetic signings, but considering everything from attitude to money, it is tough to think of anyone worse than Gareth Bale.

Real Madrid paid a world-record fee to sign Gareth Bale and after his first season at the club, it was expected that he would be the righteous heir to Cristiano Ronaldo. He has however not lived up to the billing and become no short of the liability for the club. With an inverse relation in his effort and wage for the club’s worse, he is now remembered for all bad reasons.

Zinedine Zidane has voiced his dislike against the Welshman passively on many occasions and even insisted that he left the club immediately in a press conference during the summer of 2019. In 2019/20, his antiques only grew worse as Bale was pictured with a flag that made absolute mockery of Real Madrid and was subsequently spotted sleeping on the bench.

Tottenham Hotspur were kind enough to offer the winger an escape route as they brought him on a season-long loan earlier this season. Those who had faith in him continued to think that a return to north London would help Bale find his feet, but he really could not have been worse for Jose Mourinho’s side, whose administration also seems to be thin on patience.

Bale has barely featured this season and even if Spurs go on to win a trophy this season, it is fair to say that the Real Madrid loanee would have had little contribution. As a matter of fact, it would not even be a surprise if the Lilywhites cut his stay short and sent him back to Madrid. Jamie Carragher has now taken a dig at Gareth Bale, pointing out that Zidane was right.

"They need more from Gareth Bale to think beyond a top-four place. Bale has barely figured since his return and is injured again. After several years of complaints about unfair treatment from Real Madrid, we are yet to see the evidence that Zinedine Zidane was wrong."

Unfortunately for Real Madrid, Bale has a contract at the Bernabeu until June 2022 and it is almost impossible to see any club even wanting to sign a player with as bad conduct as his, not to mention an agent who makes more negative comments than positive ones. Los Blancos are also liable to pay him 17 million euros a season, which to an extent hampers their bids to bring in other players.
