2) 2-0 victory over Barcelona at the Bernabeu

El Clasico victories are, obviously, important for the club. In the last decade, Barcelona has dominated the El Clasico. They managed to win most of the Clasicos in the last decade. Barcelona even dominated La Liga in the last decade. Winning this Clasico was important for the squad and for Zidane to keep Real in the race for the title. Zidane had lost twice and won just once against the Blaugrana at Bernabeu.

Zidane was under high pressure because Real lost to Levante in their earlier La Liga fixture and lost to Manchester City at home in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. The team’s form was down and the Clasico victory was a must. The game ended in Real Madrid’s favor. Vinicius Júnior scored the opener with an amazing pass from Toni Kross and Mariano Díaz sealed the game in the final minute of the game, coming on as a substitute.

This was the first El Clasico victory for Real at Bernabeu after the 2017 victory in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup. That tackle from Marcelo on Messi was the best moment in that match for me. Marcelo doesn’t start regularly now. Watching him in the starting XI was a little surprise for everyone but he played astonishingly well in that game. This victory helped Real find some momentum in the La Liga title race.
