Real Madrid are in the perfect position to overtake Liverpool and sign two players who have the capabilities to be among the world’s very best.

Liverpool and Real Madrid won the league titles in their respective countries last season but this season has exposed a few gaping holes in both sides despite good results. Both are in need of a defensive midfielder and a goal-scorer, and it seems that Los Blancos are doing all they can to beat competition from the Reds in this regard, AS reports.

Eduardo Camavinga and Kylian Mbappe are the two players which the Whites are keen on landing and they have marked the France duo as a priority coming into the New Year. Liverpool are also thought to be chasing the Ligue 1 superstars.

Real Madrid have only Casemiro as the natural defensive midfielder and his absences have made it difficult, especially against sides who play on the counterattack. Federico Valverde and Toni Kroos have both filled in for the Brazilian, but they come nowhere close to him in terms of aerial abilities and physicality too.

Mbappe on the other hand has been on the club’s radar since 2017 and would have arrived in 2020 itself if not for the pandemic. Madrid are ready to take advantage of his contractual situation and are looking to pounce upon him this summer as well. Their relationship with Paris Saint-Germain and a better financial position than Liverpool puts them in a good place.

Initially it was thought that the La Liga champions will postpone any galactic signings until 2022 but they recently reported a surplus despite the coronavirus halting football for a considerable time. With that said, the club however is set to go for its main targets this year itself provided the financial numbers don’t take a drastic turn like they did last year.
