Real Madrid veteran Luka Modric is keen on continuing at the world’s greatest club and has now thwarting multiple signing attempts from foreign sides.
Luka Modric has continued to be one of the best Real Madrid players this season and is also one of the best midfielders in world football, even at the ripe age of 35. The Croatia international is at the top of his fitness levels and has been dropping vintage performances week in and week out, having also added goals to his wizardry this season.
However, his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in six months. According to OK Diario, Real Madrid have already agreed to an extension of one year, with an option to trigger another but on the condition that the player accepts a reduction in wages. Modric has still agreed to do so, which shows his incredibly loyalty and love for the club.
Despite his current run of form, there are no guarantees that Modric will be playing a starring role some months later because Federico Valverde and Martin Odegaard are also very bright players and continue to have Zinedine Zidane’s trust. In the process of wanting to stay in the Spanish capital, the midfielder has now just taken a major step.
Prior to verbally agreeing to a contract extension which is only pending official announcement, Modric turned down offers from Qatar as well as the United States of America. Inter Milan were also interested in landing him at the end of his current deal, but Modric flatly rejected any approach from all the three foreign clubs interested.
Inter were ready to offer him two years and 11 million euros per season, both figures being better than Real Madrid. On the other hand, the unnamed American and Qatari sides were ready to match the highest wage payer and offer Modric three years on the contract, with the former expected to be Inter Miami. However, El Mago has made his decision and will stay.
