Zinedine Zidane has now completed five years since his appointment as Real Madrid coach for the first time in 2016, when Rafa Benitez was replaced.

January 4th marked five years since Zinedine Zidane was appointed as the Real Madrid head coach for the first time of his two tenures. The Frenchman did leave the role in 2018 for a period of ten months before coming back into the fray and it is fair to say that those ten months were some of the worst in the club’s history, all things considered.

Zidane has won 11 trophies in both his spells combined as the club’s manager, including a Champions League treble and two La Liga titles. With 157 wins in 234 matches, he is one of the best Madrid managers there ever was and his 100% record in the finals he has overseen shows just how good he may be.

While he may not be the best of tactical brains around, his man management and command in the dressing room is what makes a difference. At a club of the Whites’ stature, that is key, and also an attribute which neither Julen Lopetegui nor Santiago Solari possessed, which ultimately led to the 48-year-old’s appointment for a second time.

As five years have flown by since his appointment, here is a look at the five best moments that Real Madrid have lived under his time at the helm.
