The Real Champs 2020 Awards For Real Madrid Players
By Parshva Shah
Best Midfielder: Toni Kroos
This was the toughest decision for me to make as the team’s midfield trio of Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modrić were all important players in the midfield. Casemiro was at the core of the team’s defensive solidity that led to Real Madrid’s league triumph, while Modrić has been simply the best player this season.
However, if there was one player that stood out for his sheer consistency from the start of the year to the end of the year was Toni Kroos. Casemiro and Modrić had an outstanding 2020, but Kroos was an imposing figure in midfield.
2020 for Kroos began with winning the Spanish Super Cup trophy. Zinedine Zidane opted for a five-man midfield and Kroos, as usual, dictated the tempo on the pitch with his world-class composure on the ball. Who can forget the famous goal by Kroos against Valencia in the semi-final of the Super Cup where he scored a curler directly from the corner kick by catching the goalkeeper by surprise?
Moreover, his passing has been as good as ever, constantly maintaining a passing rate of over 90%. His impeccable football really helps Real Madrid win the battles in midfield. 2020 was full of those beautiful long, diagonal balls. Ask Lucas Vázquez how he feels.
He helped the team during the final stretch of La Liga, while he was as influential as ever during the recent run of games. He is a big reason why Real Madrid are on an eight-match unbeaten run.
