Real Madrid dropped two points away from home at El Sadar against Osasuna with a disappointing attacking display in rough conditions.

Real Madrid got held to a 0 – 0 draw at El Sadar by Osasuna. Zinedine Zidane’s team once again found it difficult to find the back of the net against a team from the bottom half of the table. Los Blancos’ only solace is the return to fitness of Eden Hazard as the Belgian showed flashes of his old self.

Here is how the Real Madrid players performed

Manager

Zinedine Zidane – 3.5/10

The Osasuna game continued to expose a flaw in Zidane as a manager. His inability to create a plan to break down low blocks and drop points against teams in the lower half of the table has been the story of the season and a source of frustration for Madridistas. While there is no doubt on how tactically good Zidane can be, the Frenchmen have struggled to find a solution against teams who sit back and defend for 90 minutes. His substitutions in El Sadar were also questionable and left too late in the game.

Players

Thibaut Courtois – 6.5/10

Courtois did not have much to do. He made a couple of saves when called on.

Lucas Vazquez – 7/10

Lucas Vazquez ran up and down the right side the entire game. He completed six tackles in the match. However, his final ball disappointed, as none of his eight crosses finding the target. He still managed to serve two key passes.

Raphael Varane – 6.5/10

Varane kept things tight at the back and did not let much past him. He was positionally good and barely troubled.

Sergio Ramos – 6.5/10

Similar to Varane, El Capitan did not get troubled much. He did make a poor pass that went unpunished in the first half. He made three clearances in the match.

Ferland Mendy – 6/10

Mendy was a reliable presence in defense, but his contribution in the final third was underwhelming. The former Lyon left-back attempted five crosses, and only one successfully found his teammate.

Casemiro – 7.5/10

Casemiro was vital in thwarting several Osasuna attacks in transition. He shielded the back four brilliantly. According to Whoscored.com, the Brazillian won four aerial duels, three interceptions, and five clearances.

Luka Modric – 6/10

Modric had a brief stint on the left where he created few dangerous and shot opportunities. Other than that, he had an ineffective game.

Toni Kroos – 7/10

Kroos could have had an assist and pre-assist passes, but unfortunately, both ended up being offside. He helped the team control the game, but Los Blancos lacked a cutting edge in the final third. As usual, the German completed 113 passes with 93 percent accuracy.

Marco Asensio – 5.5/10

Asensio was mostly a bystander in the first half. He had the least touches out of the outfield players. He looked more lively in the second half with some fine touches and his willingness to take on defenders. He got replaced by Valverde in the 65th minute.

Eden Hazard – 6.5/10

Hazard was the brightest attacking player for Real Madrid. He had some great line breaking sequences by turning his marker and dribbling past them. There were flashes of the old Hazard, and it is an optimistic sign for Los Blancos.

Karim Benzema – 4/10

The only contribution from Benzema in the match was the two times he was offside for the two goals. We see the best of Benzema when he is more involved in the buildup, but against Osasuna, only Asensio had fewer touches. The Spaniard played 25 fewer minutes. According to Understat.com, The French forward had an xGbuildup of only 0.09 in the match.

Substitution

Fede Valverde – 5/10

Valverde replaced Asensio in the 65th minute. He barely had an impact on the game.

Mariano Diaz – N/A

Mariano never lacks effort. However, he only got the last 15 minutes of the match.
