Tottenham Hotspur are looking into the option of signing Eder Militao of Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho reportedly wants one more centre-back.

Eder Militao’s future at Real Madrid is currently is uncertain. The Brazilian centre-back has not had the opportunities come his way at the club in over a season and a half. The 22-year-old has just played 135 minutes this season in La Liga with his last coming against Huesca when Los Blancos won 4-1 in October.

Since October, Militao has been sentenced to the bench and has watched Nacho Fernandez become the second choice centre-back in the pecking order. One must remember that Eder Militao was signed for a record fee worth 50 million euros making him the most expensive defender in the club’s history. The way Zinedine Zidane has made use of the Brazilian defender certainly does not give one the impression that Real spent a fortune to sign him.

Nonetheless, reports from the Daily Mail state that Jose Mourinho wants the outcast at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs had managed to sign Sergio Reguilon earlier this season along with Gareth Bale on loan. The 2020/21 EFL Cup finalist are now looking into the option of a defensive recruitment and have identified Militao as a potential target.

In my opinion, a possible loan move to Tottenham Hotspur might work out as a win-win situation for all parties rather than a permanent transfer. If Militao goes out on loan, he would have to compete with the likes of Eric Dier and Joe Rodon for a spot in the starting eleven. Militao is by far a better centre-back than the two mentioned players and the Brazilian could get minutes alongside Toby Alderweirled in the starting eleven.

However, If Real Madrid considers selling Eder Militao then it would certainly be a foolish move. The former Porto defender is extremely versatile as he can play as a centre-back, left-back, and even as a defensive midfielder.

Militao is a brilliant passer of the ball and is confident in carrying the ball forward as well. The fact that he has not had ample opportunities does not mean that he must be discarded. Militao could be a player for the future given his age, potential, and ability to play in various positions.
