MARCELO

Marcelo last featured for Real Madrid in the final game of 2020 at Elche. Despite a draw, he was one of the side’s better performers and did his job really well defensively and offensively. The Brazilian has reportedly hired a personal trainer in order to regain fitness and form, which was surely at its best this season against Elche.

Nonetheless, Marcelo has a long way to go until he could offer realistic competition to Ferland Mendy but January presents him with the perfect opportunity to do so. While it is unlikely he will play in the Spanish Super Cup, Marcelo could be given the nod in fixtures against Deportivo Alaves and Levante in La Liga, as well as in the Copa del Rey.

For a player which as much experience and quality, a run of three or four matches once in a week could be the perfect opportunity to capture form. Heading into the Champions League’s knockout stages and the latter half of the season when there is some catching up to do, Marcelo’s improvement could turn out to be a massive turning point for Zizou.
