Sergio Ramos and his contract situation has made the headlines with respect to Real Madrid in recent weeks, with there being suggestions he may leave.
Sergio Ramos is now in the final few months of his contract at Real Madrid and is free to negotiate a contract with clubs based out of Spain. The central defender is yet to commit to terms offered to him by Florentino Perez because both parties remain deadlocked over the length of the contract on the table.
While Ramos wants a two-year extension, Los Blancos are hellbent on providing just one at a time because of their strict policy of not extending a contract of a player older than 30 by longer than one year. The monetary terms of the contract seem to be no issue as the captain understands the club’s financial situation and is willing to accept his current wage.
According to The Sun, Zinedine Zidane has now dropped a big hint as to what the future may hold for Ramos. The Frenchman has not ruled out the prospect of his player’s departure in a similar manner like Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer left amid discontentment of his contract and Ramos could be on his way out as well.
"Are we going to have a Cristiano case? I don’t know what will happen with Ramos. He is here with us at the moment."
Paris Saint-Germain are the most interested club in his services and they are reportedly planning a project that would involve Ramos potentially play on the same roster as Lionel Messi. However, Real Madrid should reach an agreement with Ramos without bending their back in terms of the legitimate policies that have been laid down since a number of years.
Ramos is arguably the club’s most important player and there should be regard to his influence on the pitch, but his demands must not be fulfilled if they are over the top. Perhaps the best option for all parties involved in this deal would be to offer a second year which is an optional trigger on the basis of Ramos’ fitness and performances.
