Three Premier League midfielders that Real Madrid can consider signing to strengthen their midfield. Can Los Blancos sign any of the three next summer?
Real Madrid has boasted the best midfield in the world for the past several years. The trinity of Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos has proven out to be the best ever midfield trio that football may have ever witnessed as these three together played a crucial role in Real’s European three-peat campaign.
However, age has caught up with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos but they still continue to perform at admirable levels. But the club will be requiring new midfielders in a year or two’s time. So here are some potential midfielders that Los Blancos could consider signing from the Premier League.
PAUL POGBA- THE MOST OBVIOUS CHOICE
Paul Pogba has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for the past couple of seasons. Zinedine Zidane himself is an admirer of the French midfielder. However, signing Pogba during the summer transfer window of 2021 does not make sense to me. With Luka Modric set to extend his stay for a year at the Spanish capital, the need for Pobga could be postponed to 2022 when Modric leaves the club as a free agent.
Signing the former Juventus midfielder in 2022 makes complete sense since his contract runs out that year as well. Real Madrid would get a world-class replacement for Luka Modric for free. Although Pogba does not share the same characteristics as Modric, the Frenchman offers a lot of different qualities that the Croatian doesn’t. Such as being an aerial threat, set-piece specialist, using his physicality in the defence, and the ability to score from a distance.
