Real Madrid have voiced their preference in favour of the European Super League and having suffered injustice in Spanish football, their patience is thin.
The European Super League is looking like a genuine prospect in the years to come. Josep Maria Bartomeu announced his commitment to the project prior to resigning as the Barcelona president and Florentino Perez also mentioned his support for the upcoming league in a recent committee meeting hosted by Real Madrid.
Atletico Madrid, FIFA and some other clubs from all around Europe are also interested in pursuing the Super League which is set to pose as a threat to the Champions League’s existence. Nonetheless, the Whites have genuine reasons to support the new project which will even hamper La Liga, thanks to years of injustice in Spanish football.
Perez had recently accused La Liga of having commentators who always speak against Real Madrid. The president also cited the fact that TV replays showing mistakes against Madrid were never showed, and this was acknowledged by Luis Rubiales recently in light of a handball replay leading to a penalty not shown in the Super Cup defeat.
Secondly, the players were made to travel through a snowstorm to play a league match, which, between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao was postponed for the same reason. Real’s team was not even able to return home due to the torrential weather and had to head straight to Malaga where they played Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.
Despite the club’s repeated requests of preponing or postponing the match, the league committee never paid heed but took favourable action for a different match which was delayed due to the exact same reasons. While several instances of injustice were catalysts in the club’s decision to support the Super League, the latest handling of the match versus Osasuna was the final of them all.
What do you make of the club’s potential involvement in the Spanish Super Cup?
