Martin Odegaard ‘tempted’ to choose Arsenal over Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad have been the favorites to sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid on a new loan, but a recent approach from Arsenal has given the Norwegian attacking midfielder something to chew on.
Odegaard has received just five minutes of playing time since the start of December and is currently nursing a knee injury. It has not been an ideal first-half of the season for Odegaard, whose homecoming to the White House has been marred by either absence or by Zinedine Zidane’s seeming lack of trust in him.
Zidane wanted Odegaard back this season after the player’s excellent 2019-2020 campaign with La Real. Odegaard was originally supposed to spend a second year in San Sebastian.
Now, he could be headed back to Sociedad, or he could join another club on loan. There are multiple offers for him across Europe, including Ajax, but the two favorites appear to be Real Sociedad and Arsenal.
Arsenal and Real Sociedad are beneficial to Martin Odegaard in their own ways
According to a new report from Fabrizio Romano, who is the most noteworthy football insider, the 22-year-old is “tempted” by the recent loan proposal from Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. Romano reports that Odegaard will make a decision with his family, because while Odegaard’s “priority” for months was a return to San Sebastian, he is now seriously mulling over Arsenal’s offer.
Either destination would be great for Odegaard, so you can see why it is such a tough decision. Arsenal are a notable club in some trouble, so Odegaard could be the creative influence they need to get the most out of their forwards. He could be the reason for a rebound in North London.
Meanwhlie, Sociedad are a more competitive club this season and could finally seal a Champions League place with Odegaard back in. He would have to co-exist with David Silva, but both players are so talented and well-rounded that they should find a way.
Ajax and the others are not bad either, but Arsenal and La Real seem to be the most logical and appealing landing spots for young Odegaard. Hopefully, the option that he chooses enables him to play at the star level he showed us in the first half of the 2019-2020 season.
