Karim Benzema at his best again

Karim Benzema is as important as anyone to Real Madrid’s success, because he is expected to lead the way offensively for Los Blancos. The legendary No. 9 scored his ninth and tenth goals of the 2020-2021 La Liga season on Matchday 20, atoning for squandering a couple of picture-perfect Luka Modric passes early in the match.

His opener was a particularly emphatic finish into the top left corner of the net, and his second was a trademark finish into the bottom far right corner after cutting in from the left-hand side.

Benzema made a few mistakes in this match, but he delivered when he needed to and worked so hard for his team. It was a quintessential Benzema performance in terms of the goals and the ability to drop deep and create headaches for the opposition. His work rate was crucial to Real’s offensive performance, and it was lovely watching Eden Hazard and him exchange so many classy touches. They can be so devastating together, and it is no coincidence that Benzema’s scoring output increases when Hazard is clicking.
