Real Madrid still have eyes on PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, even though they know signing him in the summer 2021 transfer window will be extremely difficult. But Florentino Perez has pretty much put all his chips on the table in order to sign Mbappe, considering the club has made roughly 100 million euros in sales and loans since last summer without signing anyone in return.
Plus, the upcoming summer transfer window may be Real’s only chance to sign Mbappe, because, like Kai Havertz, he may not be interested in waiting. Havertz signed with Chelsea after it was clear Real Madrid wouldn’t spend a cent last summer, and Mbappe could do the same this year and re-sign with PSG, essentially taking himself off the table.
Although Real have raised some funds, they would have to cobble together a blockbuster package deal of players and cash in order to convince PSG to part ways with their superstar. To PSG, respect comes first over money, considering they have more of one than the other.
According to a report from MARCA’s Carlos Carpio, Real Madrid “know” that PSG want their superstar goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and their promising young winger Vinicius Junior. Real reportedly aren’t interested in trading Courtois to PSG for Mbappe, but they could be open to parting ways with Vinicius, who would fall further on the roster if Mbappe were added anyway.
Vinicius Junior might be the only player Real Madrid would willingly trade
There are two more players PSG like, but they should also fall under the “untouchable” category along with the Zamora Trophy winner. These players are center back Raphael Varane and defensive midfielder Casemiro. Varane is one of the world’s best center backs and vital to Real, while Casemiro might be even more important due to the lack of defensive midfield options in Madrid.
This summer, it could all come down to Vinicius or Mbappe for Real Madrid. Perez wants his Galactico up top, and there is no bigger difference-maker than Mbappe. PSG, though, want a young star in exchange and enough overall capital to justify moving their second-biggest star and arguably football’s most valuable player overall.
It would take more than Vinicius, but since the other three players are key starters, Perez may have to take the risk of Vini becoming a superstar in Paris in order to sign the more expensive – but more proven – Mbappe.
