Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard will bring a different level of class to the Arsenal midfield for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season, and he showed his high level of technical quality and chance-creation in a training session.

With a hat tip to Metro, Odegaard performed a backheel nutmeg assist for former Bundesliga man Reiss Nelson in practice, tunneling the ball through fellow young attacking midfielder Joe Willock’s legs.

You can watch the exact moment Odegaard dazzled his new teammates at Arsenal in the video below at around the seven-minute mark.

Martin Odegaard can have an incredibly fruitful six months at Arsenal after failing to earn more than five minutes since the start of December at Real Madrid.

Arsenal should have high hopes for Martin Odegaard

While Madridistas are disappointed with how Odegaard’s half-season in Madrid went under Zinedine Zidane, they are even more optimistic that the Norwegian will return to the sterling form he showed in the 2019-2020 season under Imanol Alguacil at Real Sociedad. And he can find his top level at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta surely has big plans for Odegaard, who chose the Gunners over interest from La Real. The latter side had already filled Odegaard’s shoes with La Liga veteran – and former Premier League legend – David Silva.

Odegaard is one of the most creative young midfielders in the world, and with Mesut Ozil completely moved on to the next chapter of his illustrious career, Arsenal have an ascending player the manager can believe in. At 22, the sky is the limit for Odegaard, and if the fit in North London is good enough, he can either pique Real’s interest for a true role in 2021-2022 or earn another season in the Premier League.

It’s just training, but that backheel nutmeg assist is a small glimpse at the type of quality Odegaard brings to the table. He is a special talent, and the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will surely benefit as Portu, Mikel Oyarzabal, and Willian Jose once did.
