Real Madrid are in trouble in 2020-2021, as their haphazard transfer strategy is starting to rear its head. Los Blancos’ lack of proper youth development and seemingly random team-building process have left Zinedine Zidane with a squad that cannot meet Florentino Perez’s bloated expectations.

Zidane has to shoulder some blame, but most Madridistas understand that no manager could truly succeed under these conditions. To make matters worse, a few players have seemingly taken a step back this season.

Here are Real Madrid’s three most disappointing players of the season as the club prepares for its first February fixture at Huesca.

AM Isco

We begin with Isco, who was pushing for a transfer out of Madrid as late as deadline day. He obviously didn’t get a move, because, quite frankly, nobody wanted him.

And why would they? Isco is a talented footballer, but his film in 2002-2021 is dreadful. The last impression he left on the pitch was a poor performance against Alcoyano. Isco won dribbles and carried the ball, but he did nothing with it and would often hold the ball for too long. Thus, Real Madrid had loads of possession but could do nothing with it against Alcoyano’s low block. It was a frustrating performance from Isco, whose bad habits remain over the years.

He has barely played this season, racking up 374 minutes in La Liga and close to no playing time in the Champions League. On the pitch, Isco has been a non-factor, and it is getting to a point where Zinedine Zidane seems to favor Sergio Arribas over him.
