Real Madrid loaned out Martin Odegaard to Arsenal and Luka Jovic back to Eintracht Frankfurt during the winter transfer window, so they now have two open spots in their squad that they can fill with call-ups from Castilla.

So far in 2020-2021, we have seen a couple of Castilla players in the first team. Victor Chust was one of the few players who impressed in the Copa del Rey loss to Alcoyano. Marvin Park and Sergio Arribas were subs on Matchday 1 against Real Sociedad, and Arribas has received a couple of recent opportunities, including on Matchday 21 against Levante.

According to a report from Mario de la Riva of AS (report in Spanish), Real Madrid have now registered Castilla standouts Pablo Ramon and Ivan Morante to the Champions League. Hugo Duro was already registered as a backup forward, so there are three Castilla players on the “A” list for the Champions League.

Could Antonio Blanco be the next man to get an opportunity? We shall see. But for now, Morante is the midfielder to get the call-up to the first team as the sixth midfielder. He is behind Fede Valverde and Isco on the list of backups in the middle of the park.

Real Madrid have called up Pablo Ramon, Ivan Morante for the Champions League

Meanwhile, Ramon is the fifth-choice center back behind Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Eder Militao, and Nacho Fernandez on the Champions League registry. Chust was not on the list of players in the AS report on the “A” teams for the competition.

Real Madrid most likely won’t have to play either Ramon or Morante, but it is interesting to see that these Castilla players were selected by Zinedine Zidane and Co.

Los Blancos will open their Champions League knockout stages later this month against Atalanta, who are currently seventh in Serie A. But with their attack, they are still a danger, even if they may not be as good as they were last season without Papu Gomez in the side.
