Although it may not seem like it after last weekend’s frustrating loss to Levante, Real Madrid are still in the La Liga title race. It’s possible they could falter behind Barcelona, and it is starting to get crowded at the top of the table behind leaders Atletico Madrid. But mathematically, Los Blancos still have a chance.
That said, realistically, Real are going to have to head back to the drawing board this summer with a new long-term plan. So they have a double-incentive for wanting to keep track of the best young players in the league. Firstly, it’s always good to have an eye on up-and-coming competition. But secondly, Real may want to make a play for someone within the league who is proven and affordable, given their financial difficulties.
Let’s take a look at one player 25 or under to watch from each La Liga club.
FW Rafa Mir, Huesca
Although Real Madrid defeated Huesca 4-1 in their first meeting this season, forward Rafa Mir gave Los Blancos some issues. The 23-year-old has scored six goals this season as the main attacking threat for La Liga’s bottom-feeders.
Mir is capable of scoring in a variety of ways, and while he’s not a multi-dimensional striker, he is fast and adept at finding the back of the net. The No. 9 isn’t a Real Madrid-level player by any means and will probably head back down to the second league in 2021, but he is a first-league quality player. If he moves to another top-flight team, he could be a thorn in Real’s side.
