Real Madrid loanee Reinier Jesus only played a few months for Castilla after joining the club as a prospect from Flamengo, but that didn’t stop Los Blancos from looking to accelerate his development with a loan to Champions League side Borussia Dortmund.

Despite Dortmund’s own struggles in the Bundesliga this season, Reinier has found it difficult to crack the starting XI or even the bench. The Black and Yellows are rich in attacking talent, and while they have been willing to give their young strikers opportunities, those same chances have not been given to Reinier.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder has earned a mere 69 minutes in the Bundesliga across four appearances. Despite the quiet concern, Real Madrid and Reinier both remain confident he will eventually get minutes. Reinier is on loan to Dortmund for two seasons, much like Achraf Hakimi was in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons.

Recently, Dortmund interim manager Edin Terzic made a strong statement hinting at future opportunities for the 19-year-old attacker.

Real Madrid loanee Reinier has not played a full 90’s worth of minutes in the Bundesliga this season for Dortmund

He said, via Goal.com:

"“He’s a very talented player who works hard on himself. He definitely deserves the chance in the near future.”"

It’s a simple statement, but words like “definitely” and “near future” should bode well for Reinier. He has waited a long time to get a start in Dortmund or even a string of significant appearances off the bench, but BVB could be looking for a new solution. And with months under his belt, concerns about “fitness” do not hold as much water now.

dark. Next. A young player to know on each La Liga team

Reinier is very young and had little experience going into this big loan, so Madridistas may have needed to temper their expectations to start with. Dortmund haven’t done much with Reinier, but, in general, they are one of the most well-known top clubs in Europe for giving young stars an opportunity to shine. It sounds like Reinier could get his fair shake in the second half of the 2020-2021 campaign.
