Real Madrid center back Sergio Ramos could be playing for a new club in the 2021-2022 season, and while Madridistas don’t even want to think about this possibility, the transfer rumor mill continues to swirl with – often conflicting – update on the club legend.

PSG, Juventus, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and more have all been linked to Ramos in various rumblings. It’s gotten to the point where it’s unclear who is actually interested and who is simply being used to help speed up a deal.

According to a report from noted football insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have not actually contacted Sergio Ramos yet. In fact, the Red Devils haven’t even decided their “real target” at the center back position but will do so in the “coming months”.

United have long been linked to up-and-coming defenders like Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate of RB Leipzig.

What about PSG’s interest in Real Madrid center back Sergio Ramos?

Romano also reports that PSG have interest in Ramos, but they will only do so if it becomes clear Ramos isn’t staying in Madrid.

This matches up with previous reporting that PSG are not currently pursuing Ramos out of respect for their pact with Real Madrid that neither side will actively poach players.

United could make sense as a landing spot for Ramos, but they would honestly be better off signing a young player who can grow with the team alongside Harry Maguire, who is an established starter for the club after his big-money transfer from Leicester City. I’m sure nobody would say “no” outright to signing Ramos, who remains one of the world’s best, for free, so we shall see what they decide.

At the end of the day, it would be an insult to Madridistas if their captain were to choose United over Real Madrid. Fans could understand the allure of a paycheck from PSG or the allure of the Premier League and Manchester City’s money, but a move to an up-and-down United would be a seemingly bizarre move from the No. 4.
