Real Madrid: Breaking down every player who should be kept or sold this summer
Forwards
1. Lucas Vazquez – SELL
There were rumors last summer that the club were looking to sell Lucas Vazquez and earlier in the season, the Spanish winger wasn’t being used much. Due to injuries, he got his chance and has been in the starting lineup consistently as a right-back or right-winger depending on where Zidane needs him. Having said that, his contract ends this summer and it could be time for both parties to go their separate ways. Real Madrid are very full in the wing positions and it’ll be better for the team if other players are given the opportunities.
2. Marco Asensio – KEEP
Marco Asensio isn’t at his best at all and there is a very solid argument as to why Real Madrid should sell him this summer but Zidane trusts him and if we’re going to be realistic, he won’t be sold unless a massive bid comes our way. He will need to improve though if he is aiming to be a vital part of the team next year.
3. Eden Hazard – SELL
This probably will not happen but it’s difficult to be saying this about our latest ‘Galactico’ signing. He hasn’t reached the levels that was expected of him and injuries have plagued his Real Madrid career and that doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon. With two full seasons at the club with nothing to really show for it, it may be time for Real Madrid to cut their losses with Eden Hazard.
4. Karim Benzema – KEEP
This is a must as Karim Benzema has been our best player throughout the past few seasons. He cannot be as depended on as he is this season though which means that there will need to be another striker who can rotate with the Frenchman successfully and in recent seasons, that hasn’t happened.
5. Mariano Diaz – SELL
Real Madrid have reportedly been trying to sell Mariano Diaz for the past two seasons and it has been unsuccessful not because there aren’t clubs that want him, but because he is refusing to leave. It’s admirable for a player to want to stay at the club and fight but enough is enough and for the financial sake of the club as well, hopefully, this summer they can part ways.
6. Vinicius Junior – KEEP
Vinicius Junior is a lot of fun to watch but he definitely needs to improve and fine-tune many aspects of his game. A loan move for the 20-year-old is a great option but he will need to go to a team that compete as highly as Real Madrid. Another option is to keep him and work him through the problems that he has. With Hazard’s injury problems, Vinicius will get more than enough opportunities.
7. Rodryo Goes – KEEP
It’s a shame that just when it looked like Rodrygo Goes was hitting his stride, he was sidelined with an injury that has kept him out for quite a while. His return is highly anticipated though and he has already shown that he can be a decisive member of the team.
Current Forwards on Loan:
1. Takefusa Kubo (Getafe) – LOAN
It might still be a little too early to bring back Takefusa Kubo and if a team such as Getafe can take him for another season, he will get the opportunities he needs before hopefully returning the following summer.
2. Brahim Diaz (AC Milan) – KEEP
This might be a slightly controversial choice but he can offer something to the team and we have seen what he’s capable of at Milan. If Real Madrid can sell Lucas Vazquez this summer, Brahim Diaz should be the replacement.
3. Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur) – SELL
As we have already seen for the past couple seasons with Gareth Bale, selling him is not easy. When he returns this summer, he will still have another season on his contract and it will be extremely difficult to sell him. Would Tottenham take him for at least another loan? Judging by how things are going this season for him, it’s very doubtful.
4. Luka Jovic (Eintracht Frankfurt) – KEEP
Luka Jovic has had a very difficult time at the club and going to Eintracht Frankfurt will do him a world of good. However, he should be returning in the summer and expected to fight for a spot in the team. The only reason to let him go is if Los Merengues are able to bring in Erling Braut Haaland, which is very doubtful at the moment.
5. Reinier Jesus (Borussia Dortmund) – N/A
Reinier Jesus has joined Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan and Real Madrid have no need to call him back earlier. If they do, it will be to loan him to another club since he hasn’t been playing as often as he would like to in Germany.
6. Borja Mayoral (AS Roma) – N/A
Borja Mayoral has joined AS Roma on a two-year loan and Real Madrid have no need to call him back earlier.
Summary
Real Madrid seem okay in regards to the forward line but if they have the chance to purchase a player such as Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, then it’s obviously a no-brainer. It doesn’t seem like the team will be making such expensive signings though so it’ll be interesting to see if any real changes are made with the forwards at the club.
