LW Vinicius Junior

Vinicius Junior had another positive, active performance to follow up on his bounce-back performance over the weekend in the 2-1 win over Huesca. It is reassuring to see Vinicius playing with more confidence, taking on defenders in an effort to produce quality chances for his teammates.

In this match, Vini provided an assist via a cross from the right-hand side – though he started on the left – for Karim Benzema.

We saw Vinicius play as almost a wing back in this game, moving back further from his left wing spot in order to enable Marcelo to move inside as the creative impetus of the Real Madrid attack. It was another unselfish performance from Vinicius, who is showing his value to Los Blancos.

LCB Ferland Mendy

Another standout on the left-hand side of the formation for Real Madrid, Ferland Mendy looked right at home as a center back. It wasn’t surprising to see Mendy excel in this role, as many Madridistas have openly wondered if the French defender could be better in central defense than at left back due to his quality in the tackle and intelligent reading of the game.

Mendy is one of the best defenders you’ll find in La Liga, and he completely shut down Getafe on Tuesday night. The opposition could do nothing to threaten Mendy, who even led the team in passes and completed nearly 98 percent of his passes.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old sealed the win with Real’s second goal, starting the move with a pass before darting into the box to finish off Marcelo’s cross.
