LWB/CAM Marcelo

Marcelo wore different hats for Real Madrid against Getafe, as he was listed as a left wing back on the formation sheet but ended up playing like an attacking midfielder for Los Blancos, frequently drifting inside and pushing up the pitch.

The 32-year-old did what he could to help the team press and recover the ball, but Vinicius Junior, Casemiro, and Ferland Mendy enabled Marcelo to play a less defensive role. That worked wonders for the club legend, who can revitalize himself as an attacking-minded midfielder whenever Los Blancos need the creative boost.

In addition to his assist for Mendy, Marcelo finished the match with a total of five key passes, chipping in a pair of dribbles completed. He was world-class, and we wish him the best in his recovery over the next three weeks or so.

CB Raphael Varane

All three of Real Madrid’s center backs were excellent in this clean sheet victory and deserve to be praised, so I just want to give a shoutout to the underrated Nacho. But if I have to choose between them, it is only just that I select Raphael Varane, who followed up a heroic performance at Huesca with another commanding individual effort at home vs. Getafe.

Varane has stepped up big time with Sergio Ramos out, dispelling the notion that he cannot shine without the No. 4 by his side. The French center back was on another level against Getafe, and the opposition’s forwards honestly did not belong on the same pitch as him. He was perfect, cleaning up everything and embarrassing the attackers by covering all of their runs without even breaking a sweat.
