Real Madrid loaned out a host of talented players for the 2020-2021 season, and then they loaned out two more young stars this winter in Luka Jovic and Martin Odegaard. When looking at the summer loanees, it’s hard to say that most of those moves have worked out. But there has been one positive exception in Brahim Diaz, who has made the most of his minutes in Milan.

The young Spanish international has six goal contributions in about 1,000 minutes between the Europa League and Serie A this season, playing a key role with 15 appearances for the league-leading Rossoneri.

It’s no secret that Milan have been courting Brahim on a longer-term deal, hoping to take advantage of Real Madrid’s need for cash and ambition to spend big on Kylian Mbappe. The Rossoneri saw rivals Inter improve their team significantly by signing Achraf Hakimi last summer, and they hope to do the same in 2021 with Brahim.

According to Goal.com’s Mario Cortegana, Milan are hoping to strike a permanent deal for the Real Madrid loanee, and they have even told Brahim’s family about this plan. Per Cortegana, Los Blancos will “likely” consider selling Brahim to Milan for a fee of 30 million euros.

Real Madrid could sell Brahim Diaz to obtain more money for Kylian Mbappe

In this economy, that’s actually a fair number, considering Brahim isn’t a proven player. For Real Madrid, that’s money they can use to sign a superstar player who can help the team immediately, whereas Brahim probably wouldn’t be a regular starter for another few years. He is a talented, well-rounded forward who can score with either foot and create chances via his dribbling or pressing, but one goal in Serie A is still not the level of first-team production Los Merengues expect from a forward.

Most Madridistas would prefer Brahim stays in the system for a few more years and develops, because he can become a very good player for Los Blancos. But Perez might not have time to wait around for that. He needs a top goal-scorer now. So if he sees an opportunity to use this money to further the team, a Brahim sale to Milan could actually happen.

From Brahim’s perspective, he is in a great position. He has taken well to life in Milan, and the club quite clearly loves him. This loan move has given the 21-year-old options that he didn’t have before, and while he dreams of making it for Real Madrid, he might take Hakimi’s view and decide it is best to take the more certain path to playing time.
