DM Casemiro

Another world-class defensive presence, Casemiro has reminded Madridistas why he is the cream of the crop as far as the “No. 6” position is concerned. And more than just a defensive presence, Casemiro has become a key source of goals for Real Madrid in 2020-2021, particularly on set pieces.

He scored one of those in the 1-0 win over Real Valladolid last weekend, as he was the leading scorer on Los Blancos in that match due to Karim Benzema’s injury. That’s not ideal for Real Madrid, no, but the positive side of that is it shows you how much Case is stepping up for the team right now.

Casemiro will be leaned on greatly in March against Atleti, La Real, Atalanta, and Celta Vigo. He is the best antidote to counterattacks that Los Blancos have, which is why they struggled so much in this aspect whenever he was not on the pitch in the first half of the season.

Of course, one of the true tests for Casemiro in any match will be his ball security. How he does overall tends to go based on how well he takes care of the ball for Real Madrid. But lately, that hasn’t been a big issue. He, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric led the way in February amidst injuries up front and in the back four. And they will be counted on in the month of March, as well.
