Thibaut Courtois is playing lights-out

Throughout the 2020-2021 season, Thibaut Courtois has been solid in goal for Real Madrid, continuing his breakout campaign in the Spanish capital last season. The former Atletico Madrid man was the league’s best goalkeeper in 2019-2020, capturing the Zamora Trophy over the likes of Jan Oblak and Marc Andre ter-Stegen.

And now, Courtois is back to playing ridiculous football. His saves against Real Valladolid were all straight out of the top drawer, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Los Blancos would have actually lost that tricky matchup at the Jose Zorrilla without him.

Courtois is undroppable and unstoppable. After this tremendous month of February, the Belgian goalkeeper is tied for first in La Liga with 11 clean sheets, on par with Oblak. And with Atleti slipping lately, Courtois stands to take over for the highly-regarded keeper in the race for the Zamora this season.

Per FBRef.com, Courtois is still third in the league in save percentage and goals allowed per 90 behind Oblak and Sevilla’s breakout star Yassine Bounou. But with more months like February, which should be on the horizon, Courtois can move into first place. When it comes to concentration and consistency, Courtois is operating on another level, leaving Madridistas more secure with their goalkeeping situation than they have been in years.
