Most Real Madrid transfer rumors are focused on the two most sensational young attacking players in the world, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. They are the dream targets above the others, and if Los Blancos can only make one blockbuster signing in the 2021 summer transfer window, then it must be one of them. Their attack needs it.

But Real have interest in more than just forwards, given their other needs in the squad. More midfield and defensive depth would be important as well, even if they are secondary and tertiary needs to the ones up top.

Eduardo Camavinga has long been mentioned as one of the three most important targets to Real Madrid after Mbappe and Haaland. The trail for the Rennes midfielder has gone quieter in recent months due to the amplified struggles of the attack, but he is a wonderful young player whom Florentino Perez still covets.

And now, he may be even easier to sign, according to a report from Pablo Espinosa of AS.

Camavinga could be more willing to leave after Rennes’ manager resigned

Per the report, Rennes manager Julien Stephan has resigned from the club, which is currently in ninth place after achieving third place and Champions League qualification in 2019-2020. Stephan is an important figure in Camavinga’s professional life, as he gave the player his first chance and trusted him as a starter last season. He’s had his back throughout the way, and his departure from Rennes may make it less likely for Camavinga to renew with the club.

Camavinga’s current contract runs out at the end of the 2021-2022 season, so if he believes his best move is elsewhere now that Stephan is gone, he has the ammunition to push Rennes into selling. The Ligue 1 club cannot afford to let him go for free. But with one year left on his deal, yes, his value would fall significantly and to a figure that Real Madrid could now afford in this difficult economic situation.

If Los Blancos strike out on Kylian Mbappe, it’s possible they could sign Erling Haaland and Eduardo Camavinga, though we’d have to wait on exactly how much Haaland would cost. He’s expected to cost less than Mbappe, but a bidding war with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea can easily change that.

Camavinga is just 18 years old and probably the most promising midfield prospect in the world. His 2019-2020 season was a sight to behold, and Real Madrid could do wonders with a player of his caliber who has already shown he can succeed against top competition. It won’t be easy to sign him, but perhaps this news is a boost to Los Merengues.
