Rodrygo Goes has to start as often as possible

Marco Asensio has just two goals and two assists in the 2020-2021 season thus far, including zero goal contributions in the Champions League. His latest performances have frustrated Real Madrid fans to no end, and even though Isco is the player who is most likely to leave this summer, it honestly seems like Asensio has less to offer this club than the 28-year-old.

It’s clear that Rodrygo Goes needs to start over Asensio on a weekly basis. Rodrygo has been one of Real’s most productive players this season and is the opposite of Asensio in terms of his ability to win one-on-ones and his chance-creation. The 20-year-old has scored just once this season, but he has five assists. Only Karim Benzema averages more goals and assists per 90 by a margin of 0.83 to 0.76.

Rodrygo’s return against Real Sociedad was highly encouraging. The former Santos man came right off the bench and looked solid, taking the fight to La Real as Los Merengues pushed for the equalizer at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Real Madrid’s best front three involves Rodrygo. He, Karim Benzema, and Eden Hazard can deliver a Champions League title if all goes well, since the midfield and defense are the cream of the crop in European football. With a healthy Rodrygo, Real are capable of achieving great things in this competition, even if they cannot be considered the true favorites over Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
