Real Madrid have been hit hard by the economic crisis caused by COVID-19, but they are still in a better position than their peers in La Liga. So there is hope that Florentino Perez can fortify this squad with at least one difference-maker in the summer 2021 transfer window, especially after he held off on making any signings for Zinedine Zidane last summer despite selling great talent like Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Reguilon.

Los Merengues have their eyes on a top goal-scorer who can shine for Real Madrid over the next decade. Currently, 33-year-old striker Karim Benzema is Real’s only consistent goal-scoring threat with 12 this season. In second place? Casemiro, a defensive midfielder with five goals that are mostly headers from Toni Kroos set pieces.

Thankfully, it sounds like Los Blancos will be able to make a “Galactic” signing to boost their attack significantly.

According to a report from Cadena SER’s Javier Herraez (article in Spanish), the “most likely” summer signing for Real Madrid this year is Borussia Dortmund’s star man Erling Haaland.

Erling Haaland would want to join Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe is actually preferred to Haaland by many Madridistas, but it will be even more difficult to sign him due to PSG’s reluctance and Mbappe’s higher wages and transfer fee. But Haaland plays for Dortmund, who are known for doing business with Real Madrid. Further, Mino Raiola has openly stated his desire to bring a world-class player to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Per the report from Herraez, Haaland is a fan of Madrid, and his father, who would stand to directly obtain money from a transfer, is also in favor of this move.

Real won’t be without competition for the Norwegian superstar, though. Manchester City and Chelsea will be hot on his heels, and City will be Real’s biggest competition. They have deep pockets, Pep Guardiola, and a host of attacking talent that Haaland could link up with the Premier League like Kevin de Bruyne and Joao Cancelo.

Madridistas have dreamed of Mbappe for longer, but a Haaland signing would be cheered by fans with equal zeal. Real Madrid have needed a player like Haaland scoring goals ever since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juventus, and it is a huge positive to hear that there are positive indications the club can make this signing in the summer window.

Haaland isn’t the only player on Real’s shortlist, but he’s the 1b to Mbappe if the latter is 1a. But factoring in price and ease of negotiations, Haaland does indeed seem like the more logical priority for an under-pressure Perez.
