Martin Odegaard‘s had a nice start to life in North London, though he hasn’t quite had that highlight-reel play.

But after a rough start to the match, the Real Madrid loanee showed Arsenal fans his world-class potential by scoring what will likely be the best goal of the Europa League week. We know he’s capable of striking longshots straight out of the top drawer, and this was one of the finest of his career, no doubt.

The man in the middle, wearing the No. 11 jersey, cut inside from the right-hand side, as he likes doing, and unleashed a ferocious strike with his trusty left foot. Olympiacos goalkeeper Jose Sa was left flailing wildly at the ball, left with no chance against a pure strike struck with searing venom.

Not a bad way to draw first blood in a Europa League Round of 16 match!

Check out the highlight of the goal below from CBS Sports’ official Champions League Twitter account:

Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard needed this smashing strike

Although Odegaard had some quality showings and impressed fans with his tactical intelligence and technical quality, he needed this goal, Odegaard needed to have a superstar moment under the scrutiny of the Premier League, especially after catching heat from the typically reactionary Premier League fanbase.

And he made those detractors eat their words rather quickly, humbling them by pouncing on a half-chance given to him by Olympiacos.

Hopefully, there will be more of these world-class strikes from Odegaard to come. At Arsenal, he is going to have to take it upon himself to create magic, given how badly the forwards have underperformed there for the last couple of years.

Odegaard is central to Mikel Arteta’s plans – and maybe even his survival as their manager, despite the optimistic words from the club’s brass – and you can see why Arteta wants to do what he can to keep the Real Madrid man beyond the 2020-2021 season.

As for Madridistas, they will celebrate this delightful, fiery strike from the Norwegian international and hope for his return next season. Odegaard remains an important piece of the puzzle.
