Marco Asensio

Marco Asensio is the last player on the list. He has now started 11 matches in a row for Los Blancos in the league but has struggled the most among the forwards. He hasn’t scored since their home defeat to Levante on the 30th of January and his last and only MOTM performance this season, came in the match before his eleven back-to-back starts when he was subbed on for an injured Rodrygo in the first half.

Asensio delivered an absolute peach that was headed home by Casemiro to score the opener in their home match against Granada on the 23rd of December. Leaving that aside his touches made all the difference in the match after coming on from the bench. But, that hasn’t been the story for his recent outings.

His performance has suffered so much that it’s predictable for Zidane to start Vinicius Jr over Asensio. He has struggled on the ball, maintained a below-average passing accuracy overall, and failed to create clear chances. Moreover, he hasn’t played for complete ninety minutes in his last 6 outings in all competitions.

Asensio needs to push his game up. He is a good player and we have seen him make a vital difference on the pitch but it just hasn’t happened for him recently. He makes this list riding on hopes of improvement. He has been vital for Madrid in several matches, their home fixture against Granada for example. He has the potential in him but he needs to work hard or a fate similar to Gareth Bale’s may not be very surprising to the fans.
