2. The biggest recorded Clasico win

El Clasico contests are always close affairs given two biggest clubs go against each other. But, there also have been occasions where they turn into goal fests. In that department, Los Blancos lead the way, when they recorded the biggest ever Clasico win with an 11-1 scoreline on June 13, 1943.

The match happened as a part of the Copa Generalisimo (now Copa del Rey). It was the second leg of the semi-finals and Los Blancos were trailing a 3-0 away loss from the first leg. Barca were favorites to defend their advantage and move on to the finals. But, the boys in white had other ideas.

Los Blancos were 8-0 up by the end of the first half and then stretched their lead to 11-0 before the Catalans could find a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game. Five Real Madrid players got on the scoresheet that day. Sabino Barinaga was the highest scorer with 4 goals followed by Pruden who scored a hat-trick. Chus Alonso scored a barce while Pascual Botella and Antonio Alsua scored a piece each.

This victory surpassed the earlier record of an 8-2 win for the Los Blancos against the Catalans from the 1934-35 season and to date remains the biggest ever win in the history of El Clasico. In my opinion, the record doesn’t seem likely to be broken anytime soon.
